Compressed Air Energy Storage
Thermal Energy Storage
Our research and development in the new generation of energy storage

In recent years the research in the field of energy storage and its applications has rapidly increased, including research in Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) and Thermal Energy Storage (TES). This has led to a demand for a powerful dynamic modelling software tool for the modelling and control of CAES-TES system components, subsystems and complete systems with different configurations. On this website, a newly developed component-based software tool for research purposes is introduced, which can be used for CAES-TES dynamic modelling and control, system optimization, component coupling analysis, and can also provide guidance for the design and planning of demonstration projects and plants.
With the continuous advancement of research in the field of energy storage and its applications, this website has further enriched its offerings by adding simulation models for energy storage components related to Flywheel Energy Storage (FES) and Photovoltaic Energy Storage (PVES). This expansion enables the software tool to cover a broader spectrum of energy storage technologies, catering to the growing research needs across multiple energy storage domains.
The software tool provides a wide range of simulation models for storage based components. A component library is built up in the Matlab/Simulink software platform and is free to download. Using the software tool, complete energy storage system models (including CAES-TES, FES, PVES and their hybrid systems) can be formulated based on the desired objectives. Several case studies of CAES-TES subsystem, FES system, PVES system or full hybrid energy storage system models, with control strategies integrated, are presented on the website to demonstrate the tool's functionality and applicability.
